Letters From Our Pastor

I thank my God every time I remember you.

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. (Philippians 1:3-5, NIV)

My heart is filled with gratitude that during this time of crisis you have not neglected your commitment to God’s Church - our place of worship - St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church!  There is no limit of words I could use to express my appreciation but suffice it to say that my heartfelt “THANK YOU!” is both simple and sincere.

Thanks to those of you who are utilizing our online giving via Tithely.com, either through the green GIVE button at the bottom of our website homepage (SLMBC-gi.org), or through the Tithely.com app.

Thanks to those of you who have mailed in your tithes and offerings to the church’s office at 1301 Avenue L, Galveston, TX  77550.

Finally, thanks to those of you who have made the journey to St. Luke and placed your tithes and offerings in our church’s mailbox.

I am confident that our God will indeed reward you for your faithfulness.

The Lord bless you and keep you.

The Lord make His face shine upon you,

And be gracious to you.

The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,

And give you peace. (Numbers 6:24-26, ESV)

Greetings St. Luke Family,

God’s Holy Word states in Romans 13:1, “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities.  For there is no authority except from God and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.  Therefore, whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.”

And so, in obedience to God, I prayerfully have made the difficult decision to postpone all in-person activities at the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church.  This is effective as of today, Wednesday, March 18, 2020, and includes Sunday worship services, Bible study and all auxiliary meetings.  I will revisit my decision after the 15-day ban (March 30) and determine whether to continue the postponement.  As it has been mandated by the President and our local government, all gatherings of any sort where more than 10 people will be in attendance should be cancelled.

As Christians, we know that God has not given us a spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7).  We also know that whatever the circumstances GOD IS in total control.  The COVID-19 or coronavirus is not simply a threat, it is a serious illness that has a high mortality rate.  To date, there are 198,178 worldwide cases and 7,965 confirmed deaths.  In the United States, our numbers are continuing to rise; so far, there have been 4,226 confirmed

cases with 75 reported deaths.

I consider every St. Luke member to be one of my ‘sheep’ that God has entrusted me to care for.  And I do care for each of you deeply; that is why I am committed to doing all I can to keep our members, their families, and the community at large as safe as possible during this time of crisis.

Please forward any questions you may have to slmbc77550@aol.com.  I will keep you informed as we move forward.  I ask that you check our church’s website (slmbc-gi.org) daily for updates or video announcements.  This is a time for continued prayer and personal reading of God’s Word.  I ask that on Wednesday evenings each of you re-read the Book of James, and on Sundays read the Book of Ephesians.

During this time, please do not neglect your commitment to support the church with your tithes and offerings.  You may make your donations either by mail (St. Luke M. B. Church 1301 Avenue L, Galveston, TX  77550), church drop box, Tithe.ly.com website, or simply download the Tithe.ly mobile app.  Thank you in advance for your faithfulness.

May God Bless Us All,
